Testa Produce

Titan Electric completed a significant installation for Testa Produce at its 91,000 square foot refrigerated foodservice headquarters located in the Back of the Yards Neighborhood in Chicago’s Union Stockyards Corridor.

The complex is the nation’s first LEED Platinum Grocery Distribution Facility. Everything from the parking lot to the food refrigeration system was part of the green initiative.

The warehouse features a number of sustainable technologies including a huge solar grid for heating potable water; 100% LED lighting throughout; solar tracking skylights; and daylight harvesting.

The facility also features a 750kW wind turbine that produces 30% of the building’s energy needs. This 238-foot tall structure is the first freestanding wind turbine within the City of Chicago.

Some of the services implemented by Titan include:

  • Electrical service infrastructure and distribution

  • Installation of LED lighting and 180 PV solar panels (159 photovoltaic panels and 21 hot water panels)

  • Infrastructure between wind turbine and ComEd

  • Power distribution for electric car chargers

  • Diesel generator furnished and installed

  • Installed programmed and certified fire alarm system

  • Telecommunications and data infrastructure

  • Security system

  • 3D BIM drawings completed in-house
